I had the rare chance of being able to read this book in its manuscript form. I have to tell you, I am amazed by the author. I've known him for some number of years and his talents have grown at an alarming rate. I've read quite a few of his works and spent a good deal of time discussing them with him. He's not a writer (though he does write) that term is not good enough. To label him a writer would be a crime. Same as if you were to label this just a book... a novel. Because of the care and precision of the scribe, this book is a journey into full immersion. I had a hard time putting it down. And I'm a rather slow reader. This book forced me to be an even slower reader as I got closer to its conclusion... I was dredding the end. I didn't want it to end. And as the pages turned and the story came to its full conclusion I was.. I was in such a state. I'm lucky that I was able to speak with the author afterwads, and happy that he was willing to discuss it with me. Here's my suggestion. Buy a copy for you and a good friend. Both you should read it at the same time, when you are done, then you can discuss. This thought-provoking brilliant novel needs discussion. And my hat goes off to Pablo, thank you for writing.Tags : Confidant [Pablo D'Stair Gonzalez-Fernandez] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers.,Pablo D'Stair Gonzalez-Fernandez,Confidant,America Star Books,1592862691,Crime & mystery,Crime, Thriller & Adventure,Fiction,Fiction - Mystery Detective,Fiction Mystery & Detective General,Fiction-Mystery & Detective,Mystery & Detective - General,TEXT

I was lent this book by somebody who wanted me to read a good book and also because, my name is the same as the person who wrote it. While I do agree that it was an interesting read, though, I cannot say I agree with the assesment I was given. I found myself increasingly confused as the plot went on. Everything that happened held my attention, yes, but the book went nowhere. Other than some very well written points of shocking imagery, by the end of my read I retained nothing of what had happened. The middle of the book, especially, though interesting, is very convoluted. In the end, I would call it interesting but unmemorable and I would leave it at that.
In an age of excessive hyperbole, the word "masterpiece" seems to lack the meaning and force that it once commanded. Therefore, it seems almost fruitless to attempt to describe the overwhelming power of this book without descending into cliche and accomplishing the opposite of my aim. I can only say, instead, that if one chooses only a few great books to preserve in the literary canon of the past hundred years, this work would be the most obvious choice. Having analyzed the works of the great masters of literature since the beginning of the written word, Gonzalez-Fernandez's unabashedly brilliant story gives credibility to the theory that authors are ever advancing further toward perfection. I'd like to thank the author for enhancing the collective wisdom of the species by adding to its creations this unparalleled tome.
An interesting thing about this work is the multiple levels of interpretation that it presents. In one sense, 'Confidant' is a tense thriller, with wonderful pacing and enough clever narrative turns to keep genre readers enguaged. However, the book certainly maintains merits far beyond those of an ordinary thriller. As Timothy quotes in the opening passages, there is more than one line of perception. On a higher level, the book is a compassionate concept, full of the descriptions of relationship, proxy, and, ultimately, the strange and uncertain face of betrayal. It seems that the concept of himself, which Timothy seeks to deface, is one which he earns. Further, the relationship of Timothy and Julien is well built enough that the parallels between the two are only unapparent to a first time reader. While Gonzalez considers these concepts, he also does well to create a narrative which is both gripping and emotional.
